Reconciliation Day
Reconciliation Day I
We celebrated our first-ever Reconciliation Day on April 21, 2021—a day where we as a TCU community came together so we can move forward together.
Contemplation
Spoken word and live musical performances fostered a time of reflection on our past.
Commemoration
We then shared what we presently know after our first year in operation as the Race & Reconciliation Initiative. The full first-year survey report was also released.

Reconciliation Day II
On April 20, 2022, we celebrated our 2nd annual Reconciliation Day. We shared the progress made on campus to-date and presented historical findings on Charley and Kate Thorp, a formerly enslaved couple who were instrumental in TCU’s growth in its earliest days in Thorp Spring, Texas.
Reconciliation Day III
At our third annual Reconciliation Day on April 19, 2023, leaders across campus provided updates to the initial recommendations and shared findings from research into TCU’s transition to integration. We presented four honorees with the Plume Award, an annual honor to recognize individuals and organizations that have made a significant contribution to TCU’s goal of fostering a campus community that is welcoming for all.
Reconciliation Day IV

At our fourth annual Reconciliation Day on April 10, 2024, our team provided updates on the progress of the initial recommendations and shared findings from research into TCU’s Recent History (1998-2020) via a panel discussion. We presented a collective Plume Award, an annual honor to recognize individuals and organizations that have made a significant contribution to TCU’s goal of fostering a campus community that is welcoming for all.

We recognized TCU programs that have built connections with our students to enable them to study histories and cultures that were, at that time, absent or not represented in the curriculum at TCU. They include all the Ethnic Studies Programs (African American/Africana Studies, CRES-Critical Race & Ethnic Studies, Asian Studies, Jewish Studies, Latinx Studies, and Middle East Studies). They were represented by faculty who were part of the inception and/or creation of these program and have continued to support student learning in these areas.
Reconciliation Day V

At our fifth annual Reconciliation Day on March 26, campus leaders and community members gathered at the BLUU Auditorium to listen to a panel consisting of the co-editors of the second RRI book, Race & Reconciliation, 2020-2025, discuss the motivation for the book. They also watched an unveiling of the companion electronic toolkit for the book. President Pullin commended Team RRI for their work in educating the campus community about the contribution of some Horned frogs whose stories have not been told before now. He ended his remarks with this Nelson Mandela quote, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” An important announcement about the conclusion of the academic portion of the RRI as well as the celebration of Reconciliation Day in the future was made at the event. We presented two honorees, Dr. Arnoldo DeLeon of San Angelo, and Mr. LaDanian Tomlinson, with the Plume Award, an annual honor to recognize individuals and organizations that have made a significant contribution to TCU’s goal of fostering a campus community that is welcoming for all.
