What Sets Us Apart

The French program at TCU is more than just learning a language — it’s learning a culture, literature and history. As a French student, you’ll learn etiquette and cultural norms that will help you become fully immersed in the rich and vibrant world of French-speaking countries.

Our program empowers you to think critically, develop emotional intelligence, argue persuasively and communicate effectively in both written and spoken French. Through immersive learning and personalized mentorship with internationally acclaimed faculty, you’ll gain the global fluency needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.

You’ll have numerous opportunities to conduct cutting-edge research with program faculty, sharpening your cultural insight, critical thinking and leadership in French and English.

TCU offers a student housing option called Language House with programs in French, German, Italian and Chinese, where students can live together and speak the language daily. This helps students gain fluency and comprehension more quickly than is normally possible in the classroom setting. Top French students are also invited to join TCU’s Xi Theta chapter of Pi Delta Phi, the National French Honor Society.

Whether you’re passionate about international affairs, literature, history, education or business, a background in French and Francophone Studies opens doors far beyond the classroom.

Career Prospects

French makes you more competitive in the global job market in fields such as the military, aeronautics, medicine, teaching, travel, business, diplomacy and trade.

Alumni of TCU’s French program have an exceptional post-graduation placement rate, including acceptance to medical, law and graduate schools.

Recent graduates have pursued graduate degrees and internships in business and merchandising in Paris, as well as master’s and doctoral degrees in the humanities and social sciences.
